Your gather will ultimately control your body while in the air and will also decide what hand you will end up using to guide the ball over the rim. The greatest dunkers in the world are ambidextrous which gives them the ability to gather and finish with either hand.
You should also remember that your ability to grip the ball is just as important as your vertical leap when it comes to making acrobatic dunks. It is one thing to get yourself in the air, and another thing to actually do something with the ball once you’re up there. Make sure that you have a good grip before you gather by not rushing your dunk and keeping your concentration on the rim.
Finally, always remember that while a dunk draw cheers from the stands and can change the momentum of the game, it is only one field goal just like any other field goal.
